MTR has co-invented with Avalon a remote-controlled robot to ensure the rolling stock in Hong Kong is disinfected amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The robot can be programmed to automatically spray a potent hydrogen peroxide solution to penetrate and clean small gaps and areas that are difficult to reach during normal cleaning.

The 20 box-like robots, about the size of a small fridge, will travel through the train carriages spraying disinfectant as they go, taking 4 hours for each robot per train. They can either be controlled remotely or given a pre-set route.
